The hit TV sitcom Two and a Half Men will have a new cast member in its new season this fall, reports are saying. The character will be a lesbian, the 21-year-old daughter of the late Charlie Harper (played by Charlie Sheen, who has left the series). Reportedly, she will have many of the same wild impulses Charlie had . . . and he was such a loveable scoundrel, yes?
I love the idea that CBS is adding a gay character — as yet uncast — to such a hit show. As E! News points out in an article, “Introducing a gay character on one of its biggest shows should help improve the network’s image with the LGBT community. According to GLAAD’s most recent Network Responsibility Index (August 2012), CBS came in last among the major (U.S.) networks, with only 8 percent of its programming featuring gay people or characters.”
I didn’t think I would like the series after Charlie Sheen left, but I have to confess that I do like his replacement, Ashton Kutcher. He’s cool . . . and he’s such a hunk! Sigh . . .
I’m glad to see Two and a Half Men is moving forward with the times.
Bravo for CBS!
