CTV News posted an article on its website about a criminal investigation in Kingston, Ontario, into homophobic letters received by a lesbian couple there, telling them to leave the city, and issuing what appears to be a veiled threat.

Reports CTV: “We know you and have been following you for the past several weeks and we wish for you to leave this city, before it is too late, for you,” the letter reads. The letters were allegedly sent by a group that is “devoted” to driving homosexuals from the city. One of the letters indicates that the group has successfully driven out gay couples from Kingston in the past.

CTV reports that a police spokesperson said he is not aware of any other couples in Kingston receiving such letters, and that “The community response has been unanimous: Dismay, upset and disgust.”

Hmm . . . LGBT people in Kingston and other thinking of vacationing there should keep an eye on this situation, and be extra careful there. In other words, watch your backs.

I love Kingston as a place to visit for a day or two. I like to go to Fort Henry, and take the Thousand Islands Cruise, and dine out there. Let’s hope this alleged “group” or individual responsible for the letters is arrested soon, before they not only hurt somebody, but do serious damage to the tourism industry — and economy — of their whole community as well.

Indeed, they have already hurt their community by staining them with homophobia.
