I am saddened by yet more departures of colleagues at the paper. We’ve lost about two-thirds of our staff in the newsroom because of downsizing. It’s an industry trend in the print business as more people turn to the Internet for their news. Newspapers are making the transition, but it’s questionable, indeed, doubtful that they will ever earn the kind of money they made with print editions.
On the brighter side, though, I am happy to see some of my past and present colleagues are blogging in social media forums like wordpress, providing us with insights into their worlds. What a relief that their voices will still be heard by so many, and that we all can share a sense of community in these forums.
Yes, that’s what blogs are all about . . . community.
A brave new world, if only I can remember all the darn sign-on passwords to everything . . .
