The Independent is reporting today (Oct. 3) that Downing Street says stories are untrue about British PM David Cameron now regretting his part in legalizing gay marriage.

According to The Independent, a Downing Street spokesman said (in reference to the Daily Mail report I pointed you to yesterday): “The account of the meeting is totally incorrect. As the Prime Minister said at the weekend, he does not regret allowing equal civil marriage, and believes that Britain is a more equal and fairer country to having done it.”

Whatever the case may be — and I truly doubt he regrets legalizing same-sex marriage — Prime Minister Cameron will be remembered and lauded for bringing marriage equality to gay people, and for standing up to the bigots who would oppress them in the name of superstitious beliefs and red neckism.

Mr. Cameron deserves to be knighted for leading the charge.
