Child sex abuse: Time to shut down the Catholic Church?

Tens of thousands of children raped and molested by Catholic priests over the decades . . .

That is what a UN committee is saying in a report denouncing the Vatican, which also criticizes the organization for its stance on homosexuality, contraception and abortion, according to an Associated Press article.

From the report:

“The committee is gravely concerned that the Holy See has not acknowledged the extent of the crimes committed, has not taken the necessary measures to address cases of child sexual abuse and to protect children, and has adopted policies and practices which have led to the continuation of the abuse by, and the impunity of, the perpetrators,” the report said.

Now wait a minute . . . if these allegations are true, or at least if there is evidence that they might be true, why aren’t law-enforcement officials swooping in, gathering evidence and, if warranted, shutting down the organization?

Isn’t it time for a co-ordinated international effort by police investigators?

And if the allegations are true, wouldn’t the Catholic Church be the most despicable criminal organization in the world?

  1. A sad day when such accusations are made… or have we just been going along with it for all these years. Especially here in Quebec… you would think there had been a lot of abuse.

  2. I was an altar boy for years and not priest ever touched me ever. My 2 eldest went to a Catholic University in Ohmanha, Nebraska (Omaha) and my next other brother attended the same University. I went to the U of Montana and watched as Catholic priests hit on women and also nuns. When you get right down to it, I truly believe Jesus Christ was Married.
