Congratulations to Arizona governor Jan Brewer for doing the right thing today and vetoeing anti-gay legislation that would have permitted business owners to discriminate against LGBT people by refusing to serve them. As the Associated Press and others are reporting, the bill “set off a national debate over gay rights, religion and discrimination and subjected Arizona to blistering criticism from major corporations and political leaders from both parties.” Indeed, it received worldwide attention.
You can read an Associated Press report on my Gazette blog, or search google news for reports.

Now there is one for the books, even though there were plenty of sound arguments made in the past few days against the proposed Bill. I guess that money trumps bigotry masquerading as religious belief. How sad. I’m sure, though that it is going to be far from the last word on the subject. A carnivorous dinosaur is hardly going to die out without trying to shed blood first.

Good for her, good for the LGBT community and good for all us us. It is certainly a bright spot in the close minded hate that percolates through our society.
