The “B” Word

From Mirriam Webster.com:

Bigot: a person who strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas, etc. : a bigoted person; especially : a person who hates or refuses to accept the members of a particular group (such as a racial or religious group)

I wouldn’t use the word “bigot” to describe religious anti-LGBT fundamentalists if they simply don’t approve of things like same-sex marriage. But I would use the word if those same people actively try to oppress LGBT people and deny them equal civil rights.

It is not a nice word. The average fundamentalist is not a practising bigot. But there are some, and they tarnish their religions.

Just sayin’ . . .

  1. It is unfortunate that many “Christians” want to spew hate instead or love. Jesus didn’t spew hate towards anyone so why are today’s Christians such as Pat Robertson wanting to stone the gays…What happened to grace and mercy and love regardless? I guess they missed that lesson.

  2. One of my best friends called me a bastard a few years ago-I purposefully arrived right on time to the Comedy Club and had reserved the front table! The gal who I was dating at the time held on to me for dear life the whole time.

I liked jousting with the comedian actually. He did well against some folks but no way was he getting the best of me…period!
