(As posted to my Gazette blog on July 8)

Although I vowed not to impose my values on Brunei, I did promise one concerned reader that I would at least keep an eye on the boycott of Dorchester Collection hotels, which are owned by the small nation of Brunei. The boycotts are being conducted in response to that country’s legislation ushering in the possibility of barbaric punishments, some of which could see gay people and women stoned to death.

So, in keeping that promise, I point the reader and others to an op-ed piece by Ryan Gierach on the WeHo News site, which primarily serves West Hollywood. The piece features a progress report on the boycott, as well as some artwork depicting people being stoned outside the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Among the possibilities Ryan offers to ramp up the protest: “Maybe protesters should conduct mock stonings on the sidewalk. Cameras would show up for that.”

Yes, I bet they would . . .

Good article by Ryan.
