Lesbians drawing penises?

(As posted to my Gazette blog)

In an earlier post, I mentioned I was creeped out by the idea of gay men drawing vaginas for what some are calling “a humorous” coffee-table book. The “art” project is in the Kickstarter stage, and is getting a fair amount of virtual ink in Internet publications.

Hey, I guess it’s art, and whatever floats your boat, right. Personally, I wouldn’t have it on my coffee table. Sorry. I don’t find the concept humorous, but you all know I’m a prude, yes? ( The Huffington Post has an article about the book, posted Aug. 9.)

Anyway, I got to wondering this morning how men — particularly gay men — would feel if lesbians came up with a similar project, something like Lesbians Draw Penises. Imagine the fun feminists could have with that project, too (whether lesbians or not) . . . Humorous? Would you have it on your coffee table?

    1. Dawn, there was a small report in the paper. But I didn’t even know about the event until after it had taken place. Nobody sent me a press release in advance. And we couldn’t get much info at all.

It helps when organizations are planning to stage demos to send out press releases well in advance so we can assign reporters etc. I would have gladly pointed to it in my blog if I knew about it.

  1. Not on my coffee table either. However, I am curious. You are bisexual, you have had the privilage of enjoying both sides of the coin. How can gay men drawing vaginas, or lesbians drawing a penis, be offensive to you? When you posed nude for the art class did you screen the artists for their sexuality? This is not the free-spirited Jillian that I have admired in these pages over so many years. Art is art :-).

  2. Do lesbian women have penis-envy? Do gay men have vagina-envy? I certainly don’t have the answer to either question, and I really don’t want to let my imagination run wild.
