Call me a purist, but when it comes to Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven, I do not want to hear any cover versions. So, when CHOM-FM played the homogenized Heart version of Zep’s Stairway this morning, I switched it off and put on a Beatles CD . . . Roll Over Beethoven!
I don’t think I am alone in my devotion to Zep and this particular song. Many feel it’s a song that should not be covered by anyone, perhaps because it is so perfect — which is the reason why it is consistently voted the greatest rock song of all time in so many polls done around the world.
Zep’s Stairway to Heaven is, well, heavenly . . . it can’t be improved upon.
With apologies to Heart, of course, whose original music I enjoy.
Cheers

So you didn’t like Rolf Harris’s version? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NMzuQFHJVU
Seeing as Rolf is now in clink for five years (which might just be the rest of his life at his age) for child sex abuse, I can’t say I blame you for any and all reasons. it is an appalling rendition!
Hopefully Heart won’t be subscribing to Rolf’s version!
I really ought to save up and buy the Led Zep back catalogue

OMG! Rolf’s version is horrible! I was curious and went looking for Heart’s version on YouTube and I didn’t get past the intro before I shut it off. I DJ on a virtual reality game called Second Life and I got a request for a version of Highway to Heaven played by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and I liked it. I’m listening to it as I type this.

I haven’t listened to Rolf’s version. I think I will take your word for it!

No covers. Some songs just cannot be improved upon and this is one of them.

I mentioned a version of Highway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and it is beginning to sound like a fake. I’ve done some research and can’t find an official release anywhere but I did find a cover band Far Corporation who does it. While noting is better than the original this variation does sound great to me too.
