UPDATE: Ray Cole has reportedly been released.

Members of the LGBTQ communities might want to think twice about vacationing in Morocco, which has reportedly imprisoned a British man on holiday there for four months because he is gay, his family is saying.

The BBC reports that there is a campaign underway to free Ray Cole — hashtag #freeraycole on Twitter, along with a Facebook page.

A report on the Pink News site says: “Dover MP Charlie Elphicke has called for travellers to boycott Morocco, after one of his constituents was jailed in the country for ‘homosexual acts’.”

Mr. Elphicke is quoted saying:

I urge people not to visit Morocco. If you go there you are at serious risk of facing trumped up charges for medieval crimes. The message is clear. Morocco is not safe for British tourists.” — Charlie Elphicke
