I was unable to attend this year’s GoTopless Day Rally in Montreal, but I know a lot of people are curious about how the event turned out — many are looking in here and reading some of my posts about last year’s event.
The message, of course, hasn’t changed from last year: the GoTopless rallies are held in cities around the world in an effort to point out the hypocrisy in laws that allow men to bare their chests in various public places but ban women from doing so. The laws highlight the patriarchal idea of women as sex objects, and the notion that men can’t control their lust if they see our breasts. The laws are an insult to both women and men.
In a recent letter to the editor in a mainstream newspaper, one guy decried the idea of women baring their breasts, saying if we are allowed to do so, then men should be allowed to bare their penises. Do you see the analogy in his statement?
According to a Journal de Montreal report that the GoTopless Montreal group is linking to, about 200 women bared their chests in the rally in Montreal on Sunday. To read more, go to the group’s site.
ALOHA JILLIAN: “…one guy decried the idea of women baring their breasts, saying if we are allowed to do so, then men should be allowed to bare their penises….” ….. of course, wouldn’t it be nice if we could just be naked whenever people felt; it is so ridiculous here when one sees people put towels around them and attempt to discreetly put on and take off bathing suits when going to or coming from the beach…. it happens here, of course, all over….. anyway….. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153569905378624&set=gm.1477800362542842&type=1
aloha from the north shore of maui…..
If he had been a proponent of naturism, I would have no problem with that. But he was sexualizing breasts, and comparing them to his penis.

JILLIAN… of course, but come on; our culture has TOTALLY “sexualized breasts”!!…. in other cultures and societies it is not so; but here it IS!…. the “human rights” issue is fine for most of us; however, even here on maui, many women just thought it was a joke and ridiculous!…. that is the reality…. i am aware of what he was saying!!!!! and, btw… it is LEGAL to be bare-breasted on maui and hawai’i… in fact, today i heard that it IS legal in 32 states!!… yet, how often do women go topless on a public beach?….. on maui, and most beaches in the u.s. of a, NEVER! …. aloha…..
