I’ve been toying with the idea of starting a podcast linked to this blog. But, honestly, it’s not likely to happen because I doubt that it would draw many listeners. Still, it’s an avenue of creativity that I would like to explore — just as comedy is a new avenue for me these days.
The thing about podcasts is that there are a zillion of them out there. I’ve been following a few off and on, but time to listen is an issue for me. I can’t keep up with those few, just as I can’t keep up with all the series I am watching on Netflix and Amazon.
And I doubt it would be much different if I didn’t have a full-time job. Sure, I would have more time to listen to podcasts and watch Netflix and Amazon. But I think I still wouldn’t be able to keep up, let alone start tuning into new offerings.
I mean, I have a blog to write and a newsletter to put out. And jigsaw puzzles to do with my g/f. Oh, yes, and there is life outside my front door to enjoy, too.
I imagine when I retire that I will be even busier than I am now, standing up for various causes, perhaps volunteering in the community, and just enjoying the Great Outdoors more (think: cross-country skiing, canoeing etc.). As well as blogging, newslettering and perhaps by then doing some standup comedy in real-time settings.
Podcasts and TV/internet shows will still take a back seat to everything else in my life. To say the market is oversaturated is an understatement. Even a full-time couch potato couldn’t keep up.
Still, despite all of the above, I will look at the possibility of a podcast linked to this blog.
We’ll see.
How about you? Do you listen to many podcasts regularly? Do you watch a lot of shows on Netflix and Amazon and the like?
