As you will have noticed if you are reading this post on my website, I’ve changed the layout to a new wordpress theme offering.

It is still very much a work in progress: I only discovered after I clicked on the ‘no turning back’ tab to switch over from the old design that the captions do not show up under photos now. Really? Who would have thought? Isn’t that Layout 101?

Anyway, there are always workarounds for such situations. First I tried putting them at the beginning of the posts with a rule underneath separating them from the post entry. But then I discovered that the captions were showing up in the excerpt displayed as part of the “teaser” text in the rolling list of posts. So, I’m putting the captions at the end of the posts now, not ideal but at least they are there along with appropriate photo credits.

But you can well imagine that it would not be plausible to go back on some 1,600 posts here and fix them all. And, honestly, very few of the old posts are ever read by anyone except for those on one subject: naturism. That is a very popular subject, and I guess I will get back to writing more about it here, though with some trepidation given the wave of conservatism that seems to be sweeping so much of the world and the censorship accompanying it. We’ll talk more about that.

I was also surprised to see that wordpress is now offering bloggers the ability to generate photos using AI, something I did with Google’s Gemini for the preceding post, which I had first published in my substack newsletter. That is actually a positive development for me, because finding free photos can sometimes be challenging for bloggers and newsletter writers. Of course, I would prefer to use free photos taken by real people, but I’ll use AI when I can’t find anything else — or when I am writing a post about AI, like the preceding one.

I did try using AI to come up with “a photo on blogging” for this post, but the picture it produced didn’t cut it for me. However, I did find one on Wikimedia Commons with one simple request — which I am glad to fulfill:

Top photo:This photo shows someone writing a blog on the topic of make up and beauty. We’d like to share this with you by releasing under Creative Commons (yay!). This means you have our permission to use it in any way you like – but please be sure to attribute it to us as the original image owners by linking back to our website geehair.com”

Quote of the week

We are not brought into existence by chance nor thrown up into earth-life like wreckage cast along the shore, but are here for infinitely noble purposes.”
