Why might some people find it acceptable if I post artists’ sketches of myself in the buff, but unacceptable to post photographs of me doing the actual poses? Indeed, why might some consider the sketches to be art, and the photos to be verging on porn?

No, nobody told me not to post the photos of my poses — and I actually did post a few on this site in the modeling images gallery, but took precautions by cropping off my head (lol) and reducing one in size, and not identifying myself in them. Still, I thought better — or worse — of the idea, and removed them entirely. Maybe I am projecting my own insecurities on readers, but as a pretty conservative editor for a mainstream newspaper, I wouldn’t post the nude photos of myself in my blog there.

I suppose any nude photos — or sketches — attract some voyeurs, and I am not sure that is a bad thing. But where should we draw the line on what might attract voyeurs and what wouldn’t: for example, many men love looking at women’s feet and ankles and legs? Must we stop showing “well-turned ankles,” as one former colleague was fond of saying, so that some men won’t have sexual fantasies about them?

As a naturist, I have no inhibitions about showing my body — as regular readers know. So, in a way, I am actually discriminating against myself — and perhaps against some readers, particularly nudists — when I censor nude photos from my modeling session because I don’t want to offend conservative readers’ sensibilities, even though I may view those sensibilities as hangups. Phew . . . that is convoluted . . .

Thing is, we do live in a world where public nudity is taboo for the majority of people. As much as we naturists want to celebrate our natural state, free of society’s restrictions, we have to tread carefully on a very fine line between offending others and offending ourselves.

It sucks . . . Seems weird to think that naturists are ahead of our time, considering that man has been essentially naked since he/she emerged from the oceans, indeed, since we evolved from the Big Bang when the universal seed sprouted so long ago.

Jillian, we will always be judged by someone, right or wrong. That’s one of the things we enjoy as nudist, not being judged by friends or acquaintances’ at our resorts. The sketches and photos were great and portrayed the actual experience. There will always be voyeurs, most people are weather they admit it or not. We are a professional couple but don’t hide our love of the nudist lifestyle. So we agree, why should you have to censure your own work. You shouldn’t have to apologize to anyone. It’s who and what we are.

Jillian, I like the way you think…nudists/naturists are truly more enlightened and more accepting. Great words of thought!

Ha ha Jillian, you feel guilt and shame because you removed the photos (even though they were cropped and doctored) of yourself. I’d bet you never thought that you would feel this way when you set off on this journey! Why must we feel ashamed of our nakedness. It is the basic who we are, unadorned, unmodified free and open. I think that it is the clothed minded that should be ashamed. It is actually they that are hiding. Thanks for being so openly thought provoking Jillian. Alex

    Jillian,

I figured something like this happened when you took the pictures down. Lol

Sadly, you are correct in which people who accept nudity and people who are confident enough to enjoy Naturism will always be judged by those who “narrow minded”?

With that said know that none of us who are naturists will ever judge you. 🙂

My wife and I are in the process of raising out children that way so they do not have those insecurities , are confident about themselves, and learn not to judge!

Thanks, Dave. I figure most of my regular readers got to see the photos, anyway.

I didn’t look at the pictures but I did look at the sketches. I suppose I didn’t look at the pictures for the same reasons you removed them. Now, back to my painting (dining room baseboard!).

ALOHA ….. OMG…… don’t attempt to figure out someone else; to place yourself inside their mind…. went to a celebration of life yesterday out here in the jungle for a woman who lived above small waterfalls and swimming holes …. after the ashes were placed into the stream, scores of people took off their clothes and went swimming; no one gave a thought of all of the naked people; no one!…. others have their religious, personal, spiritual and psychic hang ups…. oh well…. it was nice to see fotos and sketches of you…. and to see you do not shave… how natural and lovely….. just enjoy and move on from judging yourself through others and their “stuff”…..

Humans! Conditioned with self loathing from the moment they take their first breath! Only a lucky few seem to get over it…

I used to photograph throughout an art college for their annual prospectus but right up to the last one i did for them they avoided any views of the life classes. Plenty of reproductions of paintings of nudes but never any trace of an actual live human…

A photographer friend photographed his wife for many years until she deemed herself to have lost her youthfulness, she did not want records of her wrinkles… Such perfectionism can only make you unhappy.

I liked the honesty of your photos, shame our upside down world has caused self censorship.

Well, Caroline, I can empathize with your friend’s wife — I am very unhappy about my wrinkles, and the only thing stopping me from getting a facelift is the cost. It’s my body image issue . . .

Well I think sketches and photos were a lovely breath of fresh air and I shivered at the thought of you being judged for it, in ANY way. I had the best of times in the Amazon era years ago among people who never seemed to bother with clothes.Same with the coast of Croatia, in Europe. Lovely. And yes, in your photo you had nice ankles!
