Nudism/Naturism: Ethical and recreational

It has been a while since I wrote about naturism, but previous posts on the subject here are still being widely read.

I just haven’t had much opportunity this autumn to practise the type I prefer: recreational naturism.

But that should change very soon, as I shift to a work schedule that will give me the time to attend swim events with my naturism group. I’m looking forward to swimming, lounging in the hot tub and chasing away winter chills in the sauna.

I am not one to sit around the house naked, unless it is a hot summer day.

And that is pretty much what separates me from some nudists I know, who are more often naked in their homes than not.

Wikipedia’s entry on naturism says this about the difference between “ethical” naturists and recreational naturists: “Ethical Naturists are described as seeing themselves as part of a philosophy with ethical and moral aspects while recreational nudists are simply participating in a leisure activity that involves nudity.”

I don’t think it is quite as cut and dried as that. I totally get ethical naturism and the distaste for and rebellion against textiles, and of course I fully support it. But I am not at war with textiles like some naturists I know, who only wear clothes when they actually have to in public settings. In today’s world, few can live it 24/7.

I love clothes, too. So, I get to enjoy the best of both worlds.

And that’s what I plan on doing during the winter months.

    If I could I’d spent the winter in a resort where I could stay nude all the time (Spain would be ideal, as I had the chance to experience a year ago). But in reality, I’ll do as I do and postpone my naturist activities until summer. Sadly, I don’t even have time to go to the drawing classes…

    Some times I set my thermostat to the high 20’s just so I can laze around naked!

    Our climate simply does not lend itself to be a nudist. I love being nude but alone it is just being too lazy to get dressed.

      How difficult would it be to start a social club in Montreal for nudist activities that is not in a commercial setting?

    The first thing I do when arriving home after having been out and about is shed the threads. I’m infinitely more comfortable without clothing than with. My skin enables me to interact with my environment much more than is possible by restricting and covering it. We in central Florida are much more about trying to stay cool, even in the winter months, and nudity helps me do that.

    I also love freshwater fishing regularly in a nearby forest at my favorite secluded fishing spot, and experiencing nature in my natural state. I find it unbelievably relaxing, refreshing, and enjoyable.

    The more I wear skin as my covering, the more I dislike covering my skin. I dream of a day when I can take the trash to the curb for collection, mowing the grass, or simply taking a stroll in the neighborhood without the burden of clothing, and without the risk of being arrested or considered to be weird or perverted.

    I’m not opposed to “textiles.” I just with they weren’t opposed to me.

      Move to Vermont. There are no “mere nudity” laws there (though some cities in Vermont do have such regressive laws). Unfortunately, in the winter it is frickin cold.

        I almost wish I could, DroneMann. The summers here are brutal. But we have deep roots here. The general public here reacts to nudity like it’s the end of the world, notwithstanding the few nude beaches in the state and a local nudist organization, of which I’m a member. I’ve been several times to a local nudist resort that’s about an hour’s drive from me, and I love it there. There are many permanent residents, many of them “snowbirds,” and I’d be one of ’em if I could. I don’t visit regularly because it’s geared toward folks who have more money that I. Still, the environment where everyone is wearing only skin is Heavenly.
