If I get out of this alive . . .
I’ll socialize more.
That is my first resolution.
Before the pandemic, I didn’t do enough of that with family, friends and neighbours.
Next, join a fitness program at a gym. That idea came to me after watching a video of a 95-year-old gymnast. We can be fit at a ripe old age, if we work at it. Check her out in the video below.
Those two resolutions are not to be confused with resumptions, of course. There are several things I long to resume in my life, like going to the local market on Saturdays in the village and having brunch in an eatery there, going to the casino in Mont-Tremblant, browsing in boutiques, taking in some shows . . .
I’m also reviewing my work situation and thinking of making some changes. I don’t like the word “retirement,” though I have reached the age where I can do that. I certainly blog more often when I am not working, and I do have a novel that is four-fifths completed. But it is a labour of love, and I doubt I would ever make any real money writing fiction.
I’m sure we could all list a dozen or more things we look forward to resuming in our lives. But ’tis the season for resolutions, too.
What do you look forward to after the pandemic has passed? And how about New Year’s resolutions?

That’s really difficult. The pandemic didn’t change my life all that much. Yeah there were a few events canceled and a few doors closed. I miss going to movies every now and then. Masks are a hassle. Ditto the constant use of hand sanitizer when I have to touch “public” surfaces.
I’ve been living socially distanced for a very very long time with few exceptions. It’s much less painful than trying to find people to hang out with and then feeling like a fifth wheel. The social scene never works out for me.
And it is winter. The days are dark and short. We finally got a decent amount of rain and it finally got to winter temperatures. The moisture is *desperately* needed but I do not enjoy hiking in the cold or the wet or the dark. The difference between winter and the rest of the year is much bigger in my life than between preCOVID and now. Starting to pack on a few “seasonal” pounds and that is never a happy thing. Despite that fact that I love to watch the rain, I wish I could enter a state of torpor for a couple of months.
I guess I’ll look forward to the occasional movie or play. Maybe the modeling gig I had lined up at local colleges will become available again. Campgrounds being open again. Possibly learning to sail. Big nudie events like the WNBR, ect., happening again. It is all still a few months off, though. Herd immunity won’t happen overnight.

You’re not going to keep those resolutions any more than you – or anyone – keeps New Years resolutions. Do I keep mine? Sure… because I don’t make any, so easy to keep nothing.
I will socialize a little more, but not much, because I never did socialize much. Will go out to stores and restaurants a bit more, but again, wasn’t really that big on those things anyhow (the restos not since kids).
Retire? As you know, I have 2 kids to get through medical school first, and only one of them showing any signs of wanting to join the Army. Actually, it will be cheaper to pay med school tuition than what I’m paying now (BTW, #2 got accepted to same school as #1).
