Being a model is every girl’s dream at some point in their lives, a female colleague said when I told her I have been asked to be a model for artists/students.
True confession: I’ve always wanted to be a model, though my upcoming session is hardly what I had in mind. I had envisioned strolling — in stilettos — down the catwalks in New York, Milan and Paris wearing the latest fashions. But that won’t be happening quite yet. Instead, I will be posing in the buff for art students participating in a drawing workshop featuring models of diverse sizes and ages. The theme is Body Acceptance . . . which is a central theme of Naturism/Nudism. Indeed, I was asked to participate because of my interest in — and writings about — Naturism/Nudism.
Hey, I’m not shy. I won’t have a problem with being naked in front of sincere students/artists there to practise their craft and at the same time learn something about body acceptance. I’m happy to be able to help them.
Of course, I will blog about my experience. And I might actually get copies of a sketch or two to share with you.
As for heels . . . sigh . . . would you believe that I asked the organizer of the event if I could wear platform sandals? I explained that they are an extension of my body, and she could explain that to the students. Doesn’t that sound artsy?
Her reply: “And your platform sandals are most welcome to be a part of your modelling experience!”
Smiles . . .

I used to have the job of creating images for the prospectus for an Art College for many years.
Interestingly it was an age before they ever felt comfortable showing the life class in action and when I was there the atmosphere was of intense concentration on the part of model and students and as natural as if they were drawing any other subject.
For many years the most popular model was a huge woman who was made up of endless folds of flesh…
I can imagine that there could be a ingle of excitement knowing that so many eyes are examining you so intently but there was absolutely no sense of eroticism in the studio I photographed…

Back when I was in HS, my mom was taking art lessons. She was actually quite talented and I have one of her paintings chez moi; she is also the source of my artistic talent/eye, such as it is. Anyhow, they were looking for models, and I was going to volunteer, until she pointed out I would have to be nude. Her view was that she’d seen me naked. My view was that when I was a baby, and I was now a teenager, and it wasn’t going to happen.
Hope it happens for you, and you enjoy it.

As a nudist we would be most comfortable modeling for a live art class. Maybe something we will look into this winter.

Have fun with it. I modelled for life classes years ago and it was most illuminating. “Is my stomach really that big?” I thought and did something about it. I earned a few bob but not much. Lying down poses were good although I did fall asleep once. Still, it was an opportunity to be nude. Good enough for me.

Been an art class model for almost 20 years. Always been a great feeling to be able to conribute to the Art World.
Wonderful contemplative experience. And, it has helped deal with body acceptance images & chaos from childhood sexual abuse.

It’s not as much fun as one would think. The last time I modeled was for a figure study class held in the city museum. They had the temperature set at 68F to maintain the integrity of the hanging artwork. By the end of the hour, I felt frostbitten. You also must be able to hold a pose some times for an hour. That’s not easy. Possible sitting on one’s legs is comfortable for about 15 or 20 minutes. Then there are the quick poses of one to three minutes (use sports as a guide, ie. tennis, volleyball w/o the prop). Bring a robe and a towel.
Prior to that stint, I had been a photography model as well as product and runway participant.

Cheri : you’re right. Apart from coldness, not everyone can hold a position for up to 30mn. That’s where my martial arts training came in handy. Still, good memories !
